With a powerful sense of accomplishment, showing pride and recognition for all the hard work
the 4th graders have invested in creating these beautiful and inspiring projects, Mark Twain
International School is honoured to present yet again, as part of an annual learning and
motivational experience, the IB PYP Exhibition 2023.
The IB Primary Years Programme focuses on the development of the whole child as an inquirer,
both in the classroom and in the world outside. It is a framework guided by six transdisciplinary
themes of global significance, explored using knowledge and skills derived from six subject
areas, as well as transdisciplinary skills, with a powerful emphasis on inquiry. It is flexible
enough to accommodate the demands of most national or local curriculums and provides the best
preparation for students to engage in the IB Middle Years Programme. In the final year of the
programme, students undertake a collaborative, transdisciplinary inquiry process that involves
them in identifying, investigating and offering solutions to real-life issues or problems.
An event that takes place every year in accordance with the academic tradition of the
International Baccalaureate, the PYP Exhibition embodies a wonderful celebration of learning
and personal development, offering the 4th grade students the rite of passage towards a new
adventure, towards a new step in their educational process. This year, on the 23rd and 24th of May,
taking place in the Junior Campus, the PYP Exhibition revealed an exciting opportunity for our
students to showcase the learning, skills, knowledge and understanding they have accumulated
during the years in the PYP, to brainstorm issues of global interest and to share with the
community and the world beyond their voices, their beliefs, to assert their positions as active
participants in our society, to ultimately demonstrate their passion and concern for making this
world, at large, a brighter and healthier place to live in.
“Poverty”, “Climate Action”, “Quality Education”, “Life on Land”, “Peace, Conflict & Justice”.
These were all subjects so beautifully portraited by our PYP students through the means of an
elaborate show, featuring singing, dancing, percussion and pantomime. A performance that
managed to raise awareness about severe global matters that still affect our day to day lives, an
artistic demonstration which has taught us that, if we try our best, we could also come up with
the remedy. How? By taking an active responsibility of our actions, striving to be more
compassionate, more empathetic, realizing the fact that if the change does not come from inside
of us, meaning that if there is no effective will to converge our forces towards the improvement
of our social well-being, as well as our natural surroundings, the assistance will never come from
someplace else. Only we can be this planet’s saviors.
The actual exhibition, which took place after the show, consisted in a series of team projects
pertaining to each of the subjects mentioned above, which implied an in-depth inquiry into real-life issues. Guided by their teachers and mentors, the students have created a wide array of
products to exhibit their findings and highlight their conclusions, like: digital presentations,
posters and 3D models. Pure and authentic, the 4th graders have proven to us once again how
truly wonderful the mind of a child can be. Even though the subjects highlighted in their work
may be difficult and sometimes even saddening to understand, not only had they had the courage
to delve into these global matters, but they had also come up with pragmatic and inspirational
solutions.
This year, our students did an extraordinary job in the IB PYP Exhibition making us all so very
proud. You are our inspiration!
