The culminating task of our six-year Middle Years Programme and an International Baccalaureate academic standard which has been consistently honed by our IB World School throughout the years, the very much anticipated IB MYP Personal Project Exhibition 2024 took place on the 12th of March, in the Community Hall from our Secondary Campus, unveiling a set of inspiring, admirable and complex self-crafted works amazingly put together by our 10th graders.
MYP projects involve students in a wide range of activities to extend their knowledge and understanding and to develop their skills and attitudes. These student-planned learning activities include: deciding what they want to learn about, identifying what they already know, and discovering what they will need to know to complete the project; creating proposals or criteria for their project, planning their time and materials, and recording developments of the project; making decisions, developing understandings and solving problems, communicating with their supervisor and others, and creating a product or developing an outcome evaluating the product/outcome and reflecting on their project and their learning.
As students become involved in the self-initiated and self-directed learning process, they will find it easier to construct in-depth knowledge on their topic and develop an understanding of themselves as learners.
Taking place every year in accordance with the academic tradition of the International Baccalaureate, this year’s exhibition has revealed once again our students’ daring spirit, creativity, inquisitiveness and determination. It was a true demonstration of passion and courage, of dedication and thirst for knowledge while facing the challenges of an ever-changing world. Through their work, the students have proven yet again that whatever challenges we may encounter in our path, having the appropriate tools and guidance, we can overcome these obstacles by staying true to who we are, by honoring our inner beliefs and passions that drive and motivate us in this world, by pursuing the road to accomplishing what we mostly dream of, thus, making a positive impact not only in our personal lives, but in our community and beyond.
The observer’s gaze would shift from nutrition to engineering, from raising environmental awareness to historic architectural representations, from making and designing your own piece of clothing to actually directing your own film, and many more… all these subjects, so elaborately brought to life by our resilient 10th grade students, offered everyone a glimpse into their unique minds and aspirations. Here are a few titles from this year’s exhibition: “Saving the Environment: An Animated Journey”, “The Intricate Process of Sewing Your Blazer Jacket, “The Journey of Growing Up”, “Exploring Mathematical Concepts Through Visual Arts”, “Malvolio Monologue”, “Keep the Body and the Mind in Good Health”. Each personal project illustrated the values cherished and moreover encouraged by Mark Twain International School, namely dreaming big, working hard for those dreams and always staying true to your own self. When our students were asked what they loved most about their “Personal Project” experience, the general reply was the journey towards their final goal, the research they had to make in order to obtain such wonderful results. That being said, without expressing any doubt, this year’s MYP graduates are ready to embark on their next adventure: the prestigious Diploma Programme, culminating with the International Baccalaureate.
We would like to thank all our students, teachers, mentors and directors, as well as our IB MYP Coordinator, Ms. Floriana Florea, for making this event possible, for the hard academic and research work to this end, and for what has proven to be another excellent exhibition for our school community!
